On Saturday 28th October we’re running our first ever SING GOSPEL! workshop with the brilliant Beth Allwood from Tollington Gospel Choir!
Tickets are £20 for the afternoon workshop (1-4pm) which includes a performance at the end (4.30pm) to share what you’ve learnt with friends and family. Workshop tickets are just £20 and spaces are limited – book online now!
Choir is back for a new term on Thursday 14th September! We’re really excited for another great term of singing and can’t wait to welcome back both existing members and new singers!
Sing Tower Hamlets is open to all – no singing experience is needed, and you don’t need to be able to read music. The songs are taught by ear in a really accessible way, so you’ll be singing in lovely harmony before you know it! Everyone’s welcome – and you can even try it out for FREE the first time you come 🙂
The Autumn Term will run in three blocks of four sessions each, starting Thursday 14th September and culminating in a concert on Thursday 14th December. Sessions will run weekly in between, with two off-weeks (12/10 and 16/11).
For those who are able to pay, it’s £85 for the term or £10 a session if you prefer to drop-in. Please don’t let the cost be a barrier though – we want you to come and sing with us regardless! You are also welcome to come and just pay whatever you are able.
We’d LOVE to have you with us on 14th September! Come and shake off those September blues with a good old SING!
On Saturday 15th July we’re performing at the Wapping Shindig community event! We’re on at 3pm as part of a packed afternoon programme so come down and enjoy the fun!
We’ve had a great time performing at a couple of brilliant choir festivals – Voices of London and Chorus – in the last couple of weeks!
On Tuesday 20th June we joined four other choirs for the Voices of London Festival‘s community choir concert at St James Paddington. This was our debut performance at this festival, and we loved it so much! It was so great to meet and enjoy performances from Islington Community Choir, the Union Chapel Singers, Collier’s Wood Chorus, and the Ipswich Hospital Singers. Joining together at the end of the concert for a mass performance of Elbow’s One Day Like This was really special.
Then on Sunday 2nd July we were part of Choirs Take the Stage at the Southbank Centre’s Chorus Festival 2017. Bringing together choirs of all shapes and sizes and genres, the festival is a brilliant celebration of all things vocal. This is the third time we’ve performed at Chorus – and we love it! Here’s a post-performance group shot from the Mandela Statue stage in the sunshine…
What a joy to be a part of these two brilliant festivals – thank you for having us Voices of London and Chorus!
And there’s more! Though we’re not performing at Voices Now this weekend, some of us will be going along to enjoy more singing performances and workshops at the Roundhouse in Camden. Get yourself along, maybe we’ll see you there!
We’re excited to be teaming up with The Petting Zoo Indie Pop Choir to perform in aid of The Choir With No Name this April!
On Thursday 20th April we’ll be performing together at the Exmouth Market Centre (24 Exmouth Market, London, EC1R 4QE), with a set from each choir and a couple of joint pieces too. Details below – we’d love to see you there!
We had such a great time performing at last week’s Sleep in Heavenly Peace Christmas concert at St Paul’s Shadwell! The church was packed out with more than 50 singers, some 200 audience, and all the festive feels 🙂
The concert was a fundraiser for the brilliant GrowTH night shelter, and raised more than £3200 to support their work in Tower Hamlets. This year we also ran a raffle and silent auction increasing the funds raised by almost a third, bringing the grand total donated to GrowTH to £3202.19 – a massive thank you to everyone who came along and contributed to this, and to everyone who helped make it happen!
This is our fourth year in a row raising money for GrowTH at Christmas (see 2015, 2014 and 2013!) and we’re so proud to be working with this brilliant charity. This year our rehearsals coincided with St Paul’s Shadwell hosting the night shelter, so we were also able to invite guests from the shelter to join us for rehearsals, and we loved having them with us.
GrowTH’s main project is an emergency night shelter which provides immediate shelter and meals for homeless men and women, as well as assistance in securing more permanent longer-term accommodation, operating for seven months of the year. In their 2015/16 season, GrowTH provided shelter for 145 homeless men and women, and helped secure more permanent accommodation for 56. They also provide supported housing for formerly homeless men and are developing social enterprises to assist guests towards mainstream employment. To find out more, visit www.thisisgrowth.org.
Thank you to Dan McCurry and Pia Codina for their beautiful photos of the concert, to everyone who donated auction and raffle prizes, and to St Paul’s Shadwell for hosting us.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year one and all!
Our main Christmas concert of the season – Sleep in Heavenly Peace – is coming soon!
Join us on Thursday 15th December (8pm) at St Paul’s Shadwell church for an evening of singing and merriment, guaranteed to warm the festive cockles on a cold December night! There’ll be seasonal refreshments, a silent auction, and of course a good old Christmas singalong! The evening is a fundraiser for the brilliant GrowTH night shelter – 100% of ticket sales will be donated (as well as any money raised from the auction).
